Reviews about Keene's Hardware

  • June 04, 2020, by Felix & Jenny
Been coming here for all my hardware needs for years. I have always liked how they greet you at the door and help you find your way to what you need. I am so tired of spending half a day in Home Depot and Lowes trying to find what I need. And it's also hard to get help at those other stores. It's like the associates run from you. And if you catch one, they very rarely can help with what I'm looking for. Sometimes I'll go into Keene's and say, "I have an idea to attach this to this, how can I do it". 95% of the time I'd say I've had success. Over the years there have been some part-timers who have not been as knowledgeable - and if that was my first time there I might have different opinions from that experience, sure. The old man, his son, Jenny - they know their stuff! I like how they are honest with me about what to buy too. They sell good, quality stuff there, and also cheaper stuff that will work fine. Sometimes I think I need the more expensive, but they can say, "no, you're fine with this.. for how you're gonna use it". I appreciate that! They have always been great about returns too, if something doesn't fit work out right. Here's my favorite experience there: Once we bought a wagon from a tool road show that hit town and the hardware was soooo incomplete. They wanted to ship a new bag of hardware out in 6-8 weeks. 6-8 weeks! You tell that to two little little boys who were so excited to play in their very first big red wagon. Well I went into shop and showed the old man the parts list, "this it what I have... this is what I'm supposed to have." He walked back and forth the isle pulling out hardware from his drawers, putting pieces into the little brown bag while writing stuff down on it. "That will be $2.86, please". We happily built the wagon that afternoon. I would have spent so much more time and money at a big box store, with no energy left to build and play with the wagon. This store has come through for our family many times. My dad used to take me in there as a kid, and I now do they same with my own. This store has really fostered my love of craftsmanship. My teenage son has now developed a taste as well. "Mom, is there anything we can build today," he says. And am very happy Keenes is in our neighborhood. I try to go there each time I need something that they have to help support this business.
